Living in Europe at the moment has me thinking about the ANZACS and all other soldiers and civilians who have fought and died on their own and foreign soil for the freedoms we all enjoy today. With the current conflict in Ukraine, I cannot help but think that history is indeed repeating itself…I am completely consumed and overwhelmed by the human rights abuses being carried out in Ukraine and the grizzly death and destruction of war, and my heart is with those fighting for peace, and those protecting their homes, their freedoms, their motherland, at whatever the cost. On a walk I noticed these gorgeous wild poppies being strangled by weeds…..and it made me think about how quickly we are consumed by so much else in life, and we begin to forget those who have fought (and continue to fight) and died for humanity…..those who forget history and allow it to be retold with lies and propagandist agendas are condemned to repeat the same mistakes. So I will continue to help educate my now-grown sons about the horrors of war, why we fight so vehemently for freedom, free speech and democracy, and why we should never forget those who live and die for our ability to live in relative peace in the western world…Lest we forget..
